  • Stephen Arbitter,

    Practice Owner, Veterinarian
    Dr. Arbitter is a native of Rabun County and attended Rabun County High school through the 10th grade and graduated from Rabun Gap Nacoochee School. He received a BS in Biology from UGA in 1991 and completed his DVM at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Dr Arbitter has served as the President of the Northeast Georgia Veterinary Medical Association and has been on the State of Georgia Peer Review Committee. His wife is Jennifer Cathey Arbitter and they have three sons: Mark, Allen and Wyatt. His practice interests are in small animal surgery and reproduction. Personally he attends Mountain City United Methodist Church and enjoys mountain climbing as a hobby.
  • Betsy Hartridge

    Associate Veterinarian
    Dr. Betsy Hartridge grew up in Columbia South Carolina and graduated from Hammond Academy in 1988 and then attended The University of South Carolina where she received her B.A. in anthropology in 1992. After college Betsy worked, traveled and enjoyed her numerous hobbies which include kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and of course her pets. Work experience ran the gamut between social worker, outdoor retail, fish processing and even a carnival worker at the Alaska state fair. After she and her husband married in '95 and moved to the smoky mountains Dr. Betsy decided to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian and attended Western Carolina University in Cullowhee NC where she received her BS in Biology. Dr. Betsy was accepted to The University Of Georgia where she received her DVM in 2006. Dr. Betsy and her husband Bobby, and children, Abigail and Henry live happily with their animals.
  • Amanda Markum

    Associate Veterinarian
    Dr. Amanda graduated from Franklin High School and then earned her BS in biology from Western Carolina University. She attended veterinary school at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Amanda has been with Rabun Animal Hospital since 1997 working as an assistant with Dr. Brad and then returning in 2007 as a veterinarian. She currently lives in Franklin, NC with her husband, Andy, her daughter, Lilly, her son, Zane, two dogs, cats, and two birds. Her interest lies in exotic animal medicine and small animal internal medicine.
  • Brad Speed

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Speed has been a valued employee and colleague at Rabun Animal Hospital since he graduated Rabun County High School in 2002 and through his bachelor degree in Animal and Dairy Science (2005) and DVM in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia (2010). He will bring with him experience from practicing at Thomasville Animal Hospital and Countryside Animal Hospital in Covington Georgia. His experience will enhance our divers multiple doctor practice at Rabun Animal Hospital. While at the University of Georgia, Dr. Speed was the president of the Block and Bridle Club. In addition he was the president of Omega Tau Sigma Veterinary professional fraternity. For 10 years in Rabun County he was a volunteer firefighter at the Warwoman station. Dr. Speed says of his opportunity to work at Rabun Animal Hospital, œI am thrilled to have the opportunity to come home to practice and rise my children Tori and Spencer with my wife Dr. Jaime Smoot Speed DVM in my hometown. Returning to the clinic where I started as a kennel assistant at 19, now as a doctor is a special feeling. I am looking forward to serving the community I love and was instrumental in making me the person I am today.

    I am originally from West Virginia. My Family raised Thoroughbred Race Horses which is what got me interested in Veterinary Medicine. Earned a Biology degree from James Madison University, worked at Johns Hopkins in a research lab until attending vet school. Graduated UGA CVM 2010 where I met Brad freshman year. Particularly interested in dermatology and internal medicine. Have a 2 year old daughter, Victoria, and a 1 year old son, Spencer. 2 boxers, 1 mixed pointer, 2 cats. I enjoy outdoors activities, particularly fishing and hiking, visiting family, and trips to the beach.

    Roxanne is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who has enjoyed being a part of the Veterinary Profession for over 20 years. She lives with her husband Mark and three daughters, Chelsea, Jordan and Cassidy. Two yellow labs (her hiking buddies), and two horses share their home in the North Carolina Mountains. Roxanne likes spending time with her family and friends in the outdoors. She enjoys exercising and spending time in the woods hiking. Roxanne has loved her career as both a Technician and Hospital manager and considers it a privilege to help care for your pets.
